How has digital film changed today’s film industry compared to analogue?
Looking at the world of film recording and photographic use today, we can see a great change from the use of analogue to digital. While digital has taken over the vast majority of film making, whether amateur or professional.
Understanding film
Film – in the sense of what you record on, is a medium of recording pictures. Images are recorded in frames, It use this in a motion picture the recorded frames are viewed in a fast sequence to suggest continuous motion. Analogue recording takes the recorded frames and scans the image, meaning it becomes separated, line by line. Digital also records frames line by line, however it uses a digital signal rather than analogue waveform.
What’s the difference between the digital signal and an analogue waveform?
There’s a video I found that explains the difference and advantages of a digital signal from analogue.
This difference in the signals creates a big change, and has made a large impact on today’s use of analogue.
With digital we have advantages that errors are easily removed or editing, plus the speed at which it can be edited and simplicity compared to analogue improves and widens the use of how we can record and show images and sound.
However there is still some debate of which produces better results, and analogue film has become recognized as an art, which many still prefer to use in film making.
