Indie Screenings

Recently in class we have discussed and looked at the new concept of Indie film making and screening.
I looked into this further and learnt alot about the process and reasons of how and why independent films are choosing to use his method of distribution.

What is Indie Screening? - http://www.indiescreenings.net/

Indie screening if a form of distribution, it allows the public from various countries to apply to show the movie to an audience. You give details of the screening location, an estimation of how many people will watch your screening and your home location. After this is approved the film will be sent to you by post in time for your showing, as the film currently using 'Indie Screening' is 'The Age Of Stupid' by Franny Armstrong its offered and advised to include or invite speakers t your screenings to talk about the film and the subject of climate change.

At the release of The Age of Stupid, Indie screenings used Skye- an online Internet phone system began its screenings simotanilously at 50+ showings thought out the UK, this is a prime example of the use of today's Internet and digital technology, and emphasising on the message of how the world is connected and how it needs to unite to act on climate change.Making Indie Screenings an apporiate choice for an educational, eye opening film such as The Age Of Stupid.

Some other examples of independent films using or planning to you Dogwoof, one of the largest independent distributors, are Four Eyed Monsters and How To Be.

Dogwoof?

Well dogwoof is first and foremost a distributor of independent films challenging social and economical issues in today's society and world. It helps to organise different aspects of releasing a independent film, from :

Choosing the release dates
Booking cinema's
Planning, organising and handling Promotional campaigns and PR
DVD distribution
and much more (see http://www.dogwoof.com/indie/our-services/ )

Dogwoof claim Indie screening is a 'partnership' and gives us the public 'access to a virtual film distribution company'.Making it possible and easy for independent film makers to lauch there work worldwide. An exciting concept for film makers and viewers alike.

Four Eyed Monsters

Directed and written by Susan Buice and Arin Crumley Four Eyed Monsters is a story of a modern yet unusual relationship.Arin and Susan, the main characters find day to day life and the In's and out of relationship too much to handle and find it suppressing there creativity as a videography and artist. In an idea to avoid small talk and the awkwardness of a normal dating situation, they meet online through a dating site with similar view's, and when going out together write down everything they wish to say on paper, which is passed back and forth.
Originally using sites such as myspace (http://www.myspace.com/foureyedmonsters ) and youtube to distribute there work it became well known and gained so much response that the programme Itunes even sold podcasts reviewing and discussing the latest posted episode.
After being shown at various film festivals include sun dance and digimart it received the exposer it needed to self-distribute.

How to be

A excellent example of a recent independent film is How To Be, written and directed by Oliver Irving and is the story of a young man named 'Art' who feels unappreciated and unwanted, he wants to become a somebody and go somewhere with his life but feels his having a 'quarter life crisis'.

Show at various film festivals all around the world and was followed by a large internet campaign on big name sites such as face book and Itunes
